As of May 18, 2020, the TLC began issuing TLC driver licenses with a new design. This change was made to streamline the new application and license renewal processes, allowing the TLC to reduce the time needed to print and mail a TLC license. Initially, only drivers with New York State licenses will receive the new license design when their current license expires.

The current TLC driver license remains valid. New York State licensed drivers with the current design will receive a license with the new design when they renew their license. The TLC will continue to issue licenses in the current format for non-New York State DMV license holders until further notice.
